Meet Trevor

I love investing in, co founding companies with, and hanging out with other founders.

There is nothing harder and more lonely than being a founder and I respect/empathize with others going through the struggle.

I am a founder but started out as a pro athlete getting drafted by the NHL's New York Rangers in 2005. A few years later, my career officially ended after a gnarly car accident. I was hit by a fully-loaded transport truck, rushed to the ICU and diagnosed with what was deemed a 'catastrophic' brain injury and left me with a permanent disability.

But I decided to keep on trucking and started to recover well.

With Hockey abruptly over I knew I needed a new purpose in life and at the perfect time I discovered entrepreneurship (while watching a YC video on Youtube while still in the hospital)

My first start up, eProf.com, failed.

My 2nd was an unnamed VR project that I founded after trying on the Oculus Rift DK1. The product was VR renderings of pre construction condos and we helped sell a penthouse despite the product being suboptimal. After less then a year, I accepted an offer to sell to a Canadian private equity fund as a 'tuck in' acquisition for one of their portfolio companies and finally got my first win.

I spent the next 12 years building start ups with a few notable outcomes.

In 2017, I created Polymath (venture backed, 75mm total raised, run rate 8 figs revenue, peak token market cap $1bn/top 50 coin) - one of the first security token projects in Web3

I love Polymath and am proud of our community and what our team continues to build (especially our new layer-one purpose-built security token blockchain: Polymesh)

Since hiring an awesome CEO at Polymath I've cofounded and incubated: Tokens.com (30mm raised, took public in 2021) and now Sapien: a data marketplace that helps long tail AI models close the performance gap with big tech via a mobile data labeling game.

When not in Asana or ruthlessly 'following up' with literally everyone old school style (email), I train BJJ and am a proud sponsor of causes close to me like The Africa Inland Mission and Brynn Children Home.

Hockey was Trevor's first love and job, with his career highlight being drafted by the New York Rangers in 2005.

While his path has changed, Trevor attributes much of his personal growth to his hockey career. Learning how to be part of a team, how to thrive in a ruthlessly competitive market, and learning how to fail forward have all paid enormous dividends in his professional and personal life after hockey.

Introducing the Evolution of Security Token Standards: ERC-1400 and ERC-1404 Prime

In the landscape of security token standards, two pivotal frameworks have emerged to shape the future of tokenization on the Ethereum blockchain.ERC-1400: A Collaborative Journey Towards StandardizationERC-1400, hailed as the Security Token Standard, traces its roots back to July 2018, when Polymath convened the Security Token Roundtable. This initiative sought to address the lack of standardization in creating Security Tokens, which posed operational challenges for stakeholders like custodians and exchanges.Through extensive collaboration with developers, lawyers, transfer agents, exchanges, and industry leaders, ERC-1400 was born. This standard streamlined the process of issuing, trading, and managing Security Tokens, providing clarity and best practices for the industry.

Polymath's expertise in blockchain and securities played a crucial role in shaping ERC-1400, empowering issuers to create compliant, transparent, and liquid Security Tokens. Leveraging institutional partnerships, Polymath facilitated the transition to digital securities, driving industry-wide innovation.

ERC-1404: Advancing Compliance and FunctionalityIn September 2018, TokenSoft unveiled ERC-1404, also known as the Simple Restricted Token Standard, marking a significant milestone in security token standards. Crafted with an open-source approach, ERC-1404 prioritized security, quality assurance, and interoperability within the Ethereum ecosystem.

Engineered to cater to the nuanced requirements of security tokens, ERC-1404 seamlessly integrated regulatory transfer restrictions, enhancing the ERC20 token standard. This allowed token issuers to enforce regulatory limitations effortlessly, ensuring compliance with global banking and securities regulations.Recent advancements in ERC-1404 have further fortified its functionality and compliance capabilities. In June 2023, Republic Crypto and Upside collaborated on revamping ERC-1404, giving rise to ERC-1404 Prime. This enhanced standard aims to establish a robust foundation for issuing regulatory-compliant assets, particularly crucial for security tokens representing delicate assets like stock shares and real estate.

ERC-1404 Prime bridges the gap between centralized and decentralized financial systems, fostering sophisticated peer-to-peer exchange mechanisms while adhering to prevailing regulations. With features like automated lock-ups and dividend distributions, ERC-1404 Prime expedites token movement to secondary markets, surpassing its predecessor in efficiency and compliance prowess.

A vision for the FutureFrom ERC-1400's collaborative inception to ERC-1404 Prime's innovative advancements, the evolution of security token standards reflects the industry's commitment to compliance, functionality, and global adoption. As the tokenization landscape continues to evolve, these standards pave the way for a more transparent, efficient, and inclusive financial ecosystem, bridging traditional finance with the opportunities of blockchain technology.

What is Cryptocurrency?

A cryptocurrency is a mode of monetary exchange, similar to the Canadian or U.S. dollar, but exists in digital form and uses encryption techniques to control the creation of monetary units and to verify the transfer of funds.

The world’s first decentralized currency (or cryptocurrency) surfaced in 2009 and a host of programmers soon joined in the collaborative effort to create bitcoin. With a value that initially began at $0 dollars, the value of all bitcoins in the world is currently worth over $500B USD according to CoinMarketCap
